The goal of the 2021 Alabama Course of Study: English Language Arts is “to ensure that all students achieve English language literacy.” It represents what learners should be equipped with at the end of each grade level, equipping them to become literate graduates, prepared for the postsecondary and/or workforce responsibilities after graduation. The standards empower students, guiding them to be effective spoken and written communicators, developing their appreciation for all types of literature, and preparing them for digital literacy in today’s world.
