Physical Education

Physical education is a part of the Instructional Services department at the Alabama State Department of Education. Instructional Services is responsible for providing support to teachers and schools throughout the state in the implementation of the Physical Education Course of Study. We provide physical education professional learning and resources that align with the curriculum to help Local Education Agencies make data-informed decisions.

An exceptional health and physical education program enhances the quality and productivity of life that can be achieved through comprehensive, collaborative, and sequential learning. Studies have shown that physical activity can help improve academic achievement and positively impact cognitive skills, attitudes, concentration, readiness to learn, and classroom behavior.
